Help me adjust and operate NH 57 Rake

I purchased a NH 57 rake and I am trying to get it adjusted. What is the proper way to adjust it and operate it? I did find out that you can't turn with it down,causes the teeth to bend or maybe I have it set to close to the ground. I am looking for a manual on ebay,but until that comes through,Help Thanks

If you just go to New Holland's website and follow the links for service, you can buy a new op manual. Probably cheaper than the rake teeth you are tearing up. For starters, lengthen your toplink until it acts less like a harrow than a hay rake. if you are moving dirt, it is set too close.

Lowere the teeth until they are about two inches from the ground. Then watch and see that it picks up the hay. You may have to fine tune it after you start raking. If it wants to leave a little hay try lowering a turn at a time until it picks all the hay up. It is not a harrow you do not want it to scratch hard on the ground. Not sure why the teeth would bend when you turn with it down unless you have it set way too low.

Is the 57 a 3pt powered rake? Not so familiar with that number.

According to Norm Swinford"s Ford/New Holland book, the 57 is 3 pt mounted and PTO drive.

I replace the tractor top link with a chain which allows the rake to follow the contours of the ground wihout digging in.
