So heres the deal. I am currently using an old scycle bar rake that I spend more time fixing then mowing hay with. That would be fine if I didn't have a full time job, a one year old baby and another one due around next haying time.

So, I want to upgrade to something newer, but I'm not sure what to go with. I want something that requires little maintenance. It will be on an old MF 35, and will make about 1000 bales (up to 3000 in 7-10 years). I plan to move to about a 50 horse tractor in another 5 years and would like to have something that makes sense on both trators if possible.Country around here is a bit hilly, and the hay ranges from what I would call medium heavy to light.

I have seen side mountended disc mowers and that seems to make sense here as fields are usually pretty small.

Any advice on type or makes would be appreciated.

Disc mowers are easy to use, should work for your tractor and are easy to service, some do require a hydraulic connection for the cylinder to lift. Many people use them here where I live and love them, Its quite hilly where I live as well..

Good luck
