I just bought a J.D. 2 bottom plow with metal wheels and a trip. It has two handles for height adjustment (?). On one side it has "John Deere 623" and on the other it has "John Deere 523" stamped into the metal. As I've never plowed before, any tips or sources for a manual would be appreciated. Thanks!

You have one of the #4 series plows likely a 4B, look on e-bay, at swap meets, local John Deere dealer or call 1 800 522-7448 for a parts catalog (PC-232) no operator manual is available from John Deere but any trailer plow manual will give useable info on hitching and plowing. Model 44 plow manuals are available and would be appropriate (OMA1352).

From a sitting position in the drivers seat.. The lever on the Left will adjust depth of the plow over-all, and the one on the Right (furrow side) adjusts the "leveling" of the plow.. That Rt one will need adjustments as dirt builds up on the furrow wheel (it always does)..to keep the front bottom going in as much as the rear one.. Starting a new Headland will require the Rt lever to be adjusted several notches Lower for the 1st round..then set it back to the "normal" position for the rest of the plowing...

I should have wrote "583" instead of "523."
