I have several old horse/wheel driven mowers that I would like information for. I would like to know when each of these was manufactured. Would appreciate any help.

(1) John Deere No 2 (it has a D cast on one of the frame arms)
(2) IH McCormick new 4
(3) IH McCormick Deering No 7
(4) McCormick Deering No 9
(5) Deering ideal giant

I do have the parts book for the 3 McCormick Mowers but not at hand. The No 4 started in 1895 followed by the New 4, then the big 4, the No. 6, the Big 6, The 7 then the 9 up into about 1950. The JD they made 4 different models. The No. 2 and the smaller frame No. 1 were open gear models followed by the No. 3 and the Big 4 being the last of the Deere horse mowers at about the 1950 time as well. The Deering was made also by McCormick Deering but was bought as a dofferent company. I have some books on the Deering as well as the JD big 4 mower. Per the 150 year of International the no.4 was built till 1895, The big 4 was 1892-1897the new4 1894-1915, no.6 1914- up, the big 6 1915-1934, the no 7 1929-1939, with the no 9 ending production in 1951. I have 2 models of the 4; cant remember witch ones right now; the big 6 and a no. 7

I once heard that McCormick Deering mowers had the year cast or stamped on the underside of the gearbox, but have not had this confirmed to be true, would like to know myself.
