Plowing red clover photo

Was plowing some red clover down today. Seeded oats with red clover. The oats was 4 ft. tall and stood perfect and now the red clover will make good fertilizer for next years corn crop. The tractor is a White 2-135 and the plow is an IH 720 4x18's.

What a great shot! Beautiful soil! Looks just like mine except it lacks the rocks and boulders that we have in Western Montana. Bet your's is a lot deeper,too.

That sure is some good looking dirt. Down here in the SE ours is so full of sand it looks GREY all the time.

I personally like the smell of fresh turned dirt, fresh cut hay and diesel smoke :)

Janesville, Smiths Mill. What about Alma City, Pemberton or Elysian? You guys are making me home sick! I grew up 8 miles SW of Waseca and still own the family farm land that came in to family in 1869. I've retired (sort of) to Arizona. Was a partner with Larry Valek Auctioneer of Northfield before I retired and moved. Thanks Lowell Schauer

And all that carbon dioxide going up in the atmosphere.Carbon in the soil is the best part of fertility,lost from your soil forever.Ever heard of the carbon cycle? But it looks nice.

But all that N going into the soil from the green plant. ;)

Where we live, notill doesn't work. too wet, too cold, too heavy a soil. No fun trying to plant corn in June.....

Yeah, I get to Smiths Mill for parts once in awhile myself. Red Clover makes good hay, IF you can get it dry before the next rain.

It was 75 last week. Got a lot of alfalfa up for the cows and now it rains on the last 50 acres we have down. Better climb the silo to see whats left or wait a month.

I can tell you are from Minnesota - you have enough hp on the plow. ;)

First year in over a decade I didn't plant any clover - wanted to control some weeds in the oats patch - and then the silly rain kept me from timely spraying, & it didn't matter. Sigh.

Yeah I know I have enough hp for the plow, then you get those falls with mud and then 4 bottoms is too much. I should have a 5 bottom on hand to use when conditions are right, those plows are cheap now.

You wouldn't be needing any 5 bottom plow here in the Green Bay, WI area. In fact it would likely be 4-14's. Nice looking set-up/job though. Glenn F.
