chain guard for rotary cutter

I bought a new Woods DS96 two spindle rotary cutter, 3 pt hitch mounted on a John Deere 3020 tractor. Trouble is that that front chain guards hit the rear wheels of the tractor when I lift it. I can"t blame Woods because the tractor"s wheels are oversize, but I"d like to do something to keep the chains on.

The guards are not straight/flat against the front of the cutter; they are rounded toward the tractor, one arc in front of each blade. Does anyone know a source for a chain holder that would fit flat against the front of the cutter?

How about adding a quick hitch? wouldn't that set the mower back enough to clear?

the mower probably isn't that heavy - it would probably be easier to devise somethingthat would make the 3 point connections a couple inches further forward on the mower

I did this for my snow blower where the pto knuckles were too tight a bend. Couple flat bars, couple big holes drilled, couple bolts. Pretty simple. Will make the mower a bit heavier as it is a tiny bit farther back, if you have a heave mower on a light tractor....

Dreamin, better check clearances before you do this. Due to cost involved I'm sure there is a reason they designed the chain guard the way they did.
In answer to your question several companies provide straight chain guards for their cutters which you might modify to fit but I'd really be cautious about doing this.
