Yesterday I found a Massey Harris #11 manure spreader. Just like every other ancient spreader I've seen, the origianl wood should get replaced. He pulled it around his yard, and engaged the gears to show me how they fly. The sprockets looked quite good, and the chains have been replaced. Tires hold air just fine. Levers function without struggle. Don't know how many bushels capacity, but we only have 6 1/2 horses (the pony doesn't fully count) so I could probably tackle our whole manure pile in 12-15 loads. Last owner used it to spread dirt across his yard for his fancy new home. I Paid $300. I'm pleased, so don't rain on my parade too much if I got taken.

I got this New Idea For the same reason and the same price. The wood is in excellent shape. They use a lot of old oil to keep the wood in it all these years.

Seller done good. Buyer done good. So you think it is acceptable for a horse to stand in one spot and crap so you can clean it up and spread it out. I hear this all the time but somehow can't bring myself to accept this line of thinkin.

Hi Jason, I think you got a deal, any working spreader around here is in the 1500 to $2000 range at dealers and auctions still bring 700-$800 for those old beaters, I'm talking about the 90 to 130 bushel spreaders, lots of demand by hobby farms and some guys buy them for wood toting, I guess if you take the beaters off the apron will unload your wood for you...you didn't go wrong, good luck with it and those 6 1/2 horses!...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Working manure spreaders seem to hold their value. If you are happy with the deal, what does it matter? :)

If I'm not that happy with it... in reply to paul, 10-19-2005 07:48:47
I'd be curious if I could sell it for what I paid for it. Last guy paid $400. I've heard the odd one sell for almost $1000, but more are around the $4-600 mark. Either way, I look forward to lettin' the poop fly.
