I've been considering buying a 3pt backhoe for my 35hp Deere. I don't know much about them, but I just know that hiring someone with a backhoe to do some excavating and dirt work can become expensive after a few days. In the long run it would be more economical for me to own my own. I looked around on the net and found this...

Does anyone have any experience with these? Any other suggestions, tips or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi , Keep your eye out for construction auctions , might be able to pick up something like a 580 Case for less than 5K . As a bonus it'll have a loader on it that's designed into it just like the backhoe is . These tractors were built for this kind of duty . And parts are readily available . Good luck ...Randy

I have been thinking the same thing lately but can't talk myself into buying one. good used ones at a good price are hard to come by.
Do a search on this site for 3pt backhoe chat and you will have plenty of info. it sounds like you can break the transmission housing if not careful.
My local hardware store will rent me a Teramite but it seems that they wanted $150 per day and $150 to deliver/pickup and they had an hour meter so that you couldn't excede 8hrs of run in a day.

If you _really_ need to get a big job done, hire it.

For lots of endless puttering jobs, the 3pt models are great to own.

If your tractor is a compact, be carefull with a 3pt hoe. They want to bend the heck out of the tranny area (bout where your legs are when sitting on the tractor) and really stress that area. Many compacts have been damaged with aggressive hoe use. A frame mount is a lot better if you have a weaker tractor.

Haveing a back hoe around is handy, I have one on an 8N ford and thats all it does anymore. As far as the 3 point type they can be hard on the center link area of the tractor. And the are also a little slower but for most home/farm jobs they do well

had one used it all the time.. so we got a real backhoe.... there is a difference (even if the backhoe is so worn out the pins fall out on there own)

but the 3pt ones work good enough.
