Finish mower makes me think lawn work. Personally I hate turfs, they spin easily. I have two tractors that I use on the lawn, an AC B with lugged (bars), and a 950 Deere with turfs. The 950 is about the same size as your 9N, the B smaller. The only time I have a problem I have with the lugs (bars) are if I brake too hard on turns, and the pivot leaves a divet. But in my opinion, those turfs have gotta go - lose tractor for other chores with the inability for traction. If go lugged (bars), I'd go with bias ply field and road because the bars are closer and aren't nearly as steep as radial (20+ degrees vrs 40+ degrees), which gives more bar across the lawn (I assume) at any given time, which distributes the tractor weight more evenly. If you go lugged (bars), be careful, there are different applications (designs) - they are not all the same. My 2 cents.

You may be able to get by with ag tires, but you may not. I mow with a John Deere M, comparable to your 8n or at least close enough for comparison. After the second year of mowing with ag tires, I could begin to see banding where I had to drive in the same track every time I mowed--edges, etc.. I put turf tires on this year and have been very happy with them. I did go to a wider tire, which helps lower your footprint pressure.

With ag tires on my lawn, the lugs would sometimes go in half their depth or more. With turf tires on the back and 6.00x16 rib implement tires on the front, the footprint is light enough it doesn't leave an indentation. I run about 10 psi, but could probably go lower if I needed to.

I can's speak to traction, although I have not had problems with traction when I blade my driveway.

Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

Pat

If you decide to go with turf tires, here's one option

I have regular ag tires on my Allis C that O mow with every week they work fine. I have no problems with destroying the grass unless I try to mow in standing water. I would not bother with turf tires.

Get ag tires and don't look back.

I have used a finish mower for 20+ years behind 3 different tractors. This spring I bought a new JD 5320 4 wd (64 hp) to replace my older machine and decided to buy industrial tires as a compromise. It took me less than a week to call the dealer back and have ag tires put back on. I paid $400 extra for the indutrial tires and traded them even for ag tires, that's how much i thought of them. I wouldn't give a wad of spit for turf tires! NO, the ag tires don't tear up the yard!
