Hey everyone, I've got a question that I have recieved different answers from different people and I thought I would run it by you all too. I have a 3000 Ford diesel and was wondering what size plow it could handle. I found a 2 bottom Ford plow that was 18 inches and the guy selling it said it was too big for my tractor. What do you think. He told me that I should go for a 14 inch plow instead.
Thanks in advance for your answers,
Dale

Rule of thumb is 15 HP drawbar per 14 inch bottom.

move down to alabama - hill country - cullman that is!! pulled a 3-16 with a 7600 and a 3-14 with a 5600 for a many acres. the 7600 handled the 3-16 with ease/could have used another 16 most time/same with the 5600 - HOWEVER - more times than i care to count - ground got "tight"/hard and the 3 bottoms were all we needed. of course in the good ground we could run with the wind and fuel consumption was not bad. all this to say -- the 3600 could not handle the 3-14 around here.

anytime you can use a wider plow as in 2-18 verus 3-14 go for it. The wider plow handles trash better and plows deeper. also 2-18=36 and 3-14=42 not much difference in width however you can plow 9" deep verus 7" deep and handle cornstalks and trash much better.

Yours is a very subjective question. Here in Green Bay, WI it's 20hp. per 14" plow bottom. Other areas of the country they pull twice as much. Glenn F.

My uncles have a Ford 3000 dsl 38 hp, and Ford 2910 dsl 36 hp. They use a 3 point hitch 3-14's behind both and do not have any problems pulling them. We usually pull in 5th or 1 high (both tractors are 4 spd with Hi-lo trans). We have 1 set of 3ph 2-16's and 1 set of 3ph 2-14's but they are rarely used unless we plow with the Jubilee. It all depends on the soil & conditions in your area, we are just south of Richmond Vrginia. I hope this helps

The 2-18 would be a nice plow for your 3000. It is a 3ph isnt it? It should handle up to 3-14 unless you have heavy ground. Have fun.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I think I have picked to go with the 2 18's.
Thanks again,
Dale
