Woods belly mower on Super A

Just bought and installed a new Woods 59 belly mower on my 49 Super A. With everything adjusted correctly it rides about an inch from the rear tires. It will rub if I raise it all the way with the lift. The belt will not allow me to push it further ahead. It cuts fine but it seems it should be further from the rear tires. Do they make longer belts or do I just live with it. Thanks

I have an old woods belly mower on my A and it has the same problem. Also, if you lift up your deck to get through some heavy grass the belt get looser the higher you lift it.

Do the new ones still use one belt?

kopeck: The belt should remain tight even when mower is lifted. Secret is having pivot point of mower lift in line with idler pullies.

I have seen new Woods mowers as recently as two years ago and still had one belt, cant say about all models.

My belt just fits with the idler pullies adjusted almost all the way up so I can't keep them down far enough to keep the pull in line with the spindle pullies.

Every time I weave that belt around those spindle pullies it make chuckle to my self.

kopeck: I can understand your problem, and can see the belt would loosen as you lift the mower. My mower is on my Super A, the mower an older Woods came off a BN. I had to do some modifications on mounting. When my mower is on the shoes and casters, the bottoms of my idler pullies are directly in line for mower pulley. In other words belts going from idlers to mower are paralell with ground.

Yup, the belt is at an angle coming off both idler pullies. A longer belt would solve the problem but this one came with the mower and it's pretty new, plus I hear they cost an arm and a leg...

Wow, I have a BN, can't imagin mowing with it. I bet your Super A is nice though, not that the manual lift is really that bad.

Muley: My Woods is an older unit on a SA and yes I agree they are quite close to rear tires. I have the lift chain on mine so hyraulics cant lift it too high. As the belt ages you will probably gain a bit. Just be careful backing with mower raised. Farm tires will catch it, been there and done that. I now always leave mower on ground while backing.

I had the same problem when I put woods 306 under a Farmall C 2 years ago. I moved it forward slightly which caused the idler pulleys to be a little higher than the directions said. I have had no problem with the belt and could probably push the idler pulleys down if the belt has stretched in the last few years.
