Does anyone have one out there? I've gone 2 for 2 on my manual hunts on this website, thought I'd try my luck again. Mainly I need to know how to set-up the knife sharpener on the machine. I got the motor off of a 1000 waiting to be torched, and the splined index-hub and tie rod arm off another one in the bone-yard. Got new grinding wheels from a pharmicist who's dad used to work at Fox Mfg. in Appleton, right next door.

I have the grinder all put together from what I can tell, but even with the grinder adjusted all the way down, I'm still 1/2" away from the knives. Want to start corn in the next few days, but we really want to sharpen the knives. They're a little dulled and rounded from the previous owner's using it as a chipper. They set the shear bar way back so as not to damage it, but the knives still took a little bit of a beating.

Can't argue with a free chopper.....

I got the sharpener figured out now after looking at the pictures several times. Just had to remove 1 bolt that was holding it in what I assume is the storage position. I am just starting to clean up the knives, but they havn't seen a sharpener in a while so I'll be at it for a while yet....

Don, did you get more than one grinding wheel?Would you have any wheels for sale? What is in the old Fox plant now. What year did it close?

Don, how wide are the knives? New knives are 3 1/2 inches wide. If they are 2 7/8 inches, the manual says they have to be replaced. Take your spare shear bar and insert it through the square holes in the cutterhead side plates located under the sharpener. The knives should be either touching the second shear bar or they should be close. If they are far away they should be adjusted out to the second shear bar. What model is your sharpener? Starting at sharpener model 0162-002, a steel hub was used instead of the cast one. One reason why your stone is too far away from the knives could be that the motor frame is too short(wrong motor on the 1000), as the motor I used is quite a long frame. The motor should be shifted all the way towards the drive side of the cutterhead so that it clears the knives on both ends.I have a manual for the sharpener that I could fax to you if you would like. I don't have a manual for the 3000. You could check on ebay. Type in fox farm equipment, or fox forage. There are quite a few different manuals listed. I own two Super D's, 1 SPF, 2 2000's and a 3000. The pull types are for parts for the self propelled machines.

I'm not sure what is in the plant now or when it closed, but there is some sort of company in it. Never paid much attention. I got the manual yesterday from the deceased owner's son, and it is a later model. Couldn't find the hub assembly so I got a cast one from Wisconsin Tractor Parts. I think I did get the motor off a 1000, but the sharpeners and all that are the same so I can't see why that would make a difference. The motor is quite long.

As far as the stones, I have 2 more but I just broke the one on the chopper and and may need the other one. If you want i can get you a phone number for our local dealer who still deals w/ Fox, they should be able to get the stones yet.

Do you have the correct grinder wheels, or are they too short? Another source of grinder wheels is Zenith Cutter.

These are wheels from Fox, so they should be right. They're about 2" if I remember, but they should be able to be adjusted all the way down. I managed to find a manual for the base unit and the sharpener from the original owner's son. Also got 5 screens, 5 used knives and a shear bar. Also got some 2-hole knives that'll go in our other fox. I went through the manual once, but I can't figure it out yet. I need to read through it a few more times, I may be able to figure it out yet.....
