I was loaned/given a John Deere 25-B planter. It doesn't have fertilizer attachment but I would like to find one. Tried it on about a two acre corn patch last year, and didn't get a very good stand. Anyone know anything about these planters or have advice on using it? Matt.

I have two 24B units mounted on a tool bar very good units for small acerage. 24B and 25B are very similar planters with a few small difference but are basically the same machine. The first thing I recommend is go to your local JD dealer and order a parts catalog and an operators manual. They will probally run about $30.oo apeice but they are well worth it. Some parts are still available through JD. Your crops success starts with the proper set up of your planter. The operators manuel is full of very useful info such as gear/sprocket ratio for plant spacing and population and how to set seed depth depending on what your planting. Are you planting sweetcorn or field corn? Corn is very fussy crop. It needs to planted 1.5" to 2" deep. Weeds need to be controlled early with chemicals or through cultivation. Pest also need to be kept in check. The ground you plant in needs to be limed and fertilized according to soil test to acheive satisfactory yeilds. Sorry for the long post. If you have any more questions I will be glad to answer them.
