PO Breaker Plow Lift Help

I have a 20"? one bottom P&O Land Breaking plow on steel. It is a good plow but when you trip it to lift at the end of the round it starts to lift and gets about halfway a drops down. I'm not a trip-lift plow man. I looked inside the lift. The lobes? don't look worn too bad. Can someone help? I don't think the lift on this is any different from a regular plow except maybe bigger.

You are holding onto the rope too long. One short tug on the rope is all that's required, otherwise the plow will do exactly what you have described.

Pretty sure IH bought P+O so if their lift mechanisms are similar heres what I'd do. Pull the cover off, catch all the little pieces, clean everything up with diesel and PB Blaster, re-grease, re-assemble and try it. Also make sure the springs that control the lift mechanism are stout enough to work. Wish I had a brush and breaker plow. Be handy in the old meadows.

I kind of did that, cleaned out a mouse nest and put on some spray moly. Then I was afraid that was the wromg thing to do. The lift roller starts to climb those ramps or lobes and then slips. I was wondering if that roller is worn down. I can't imagine this plow having that many acres on it. And we don't live in a sandy area.

Hi Redd.
I have a different color plow and I don't know directly about the PO or IH plows, but on the lift for a JD (it also has lobes/roller), I had the same problem and the problem turned out to be a weak spring on the roller. The spring looked OK, but must have weaken over the years. I should have replaced the spring, but I was in a hurry and just shortened it a little and the lift has been working fine since.
