Slave cylinder for a top link???

Hello,

Has anyone ever seen a hydraulic slave cylinder used in place of a top link on a 3pt hitch?? I was wondering if it would work and how to convert the slave cylinder to work as the top link. I want to use it with 3pt pallet forks and with a bale spike. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

I have pretty well the identical set up as Butcher. I have it on a rear bale spike for bringing bales in from the field. One on the front end loader and one on the 3 point fork. Works very well. I use a ram I got at an auction for $25. Double acting so you can pick the bale lower and lift it higher when you transport it home.

Hi Matt. Here is a pic of one that I have. I have had no problems with breaking anything. The nuckle was 1" steel with a 1 1/16th hole drilled and I welded it to the bar stock with a hole of the same dia. One for both ends of course. To buy one at the local realer around here would have cost a bundle.

A 'slave cylinder' is something totatally different & would not work for you, but I believe you just mean a regular hydraulic cylinder. You can buy them pre-made all set up with swivels for $65 or so, or you can put your own together from a regular cylinder & the swivel block as others say. Works well, you tractor needs to have remote hyd of course.

Thanks for all the feedback! I have been looking around and have not yet been able to find an adapting knuckle that would allow movement side to side for the cylinder. Any info on suppliers of these parts would be appreciated. My tractors are equiped with SVC's so that will not be a problem. Thanks agian, Matt

Matt, It is just a 2 way hyd cyl. Pick one up at a sale for 25.00 with the hoses,your tractor must have a remote hyd valve.

I've seen using a regular hydralic cylinder in this fasion break the top link mount on a tractor, so be careful.

To use a cylinder you need what Rick refers to as a converter block. It allows for up/dn as well as side to side movement. Same action as a pto knuckle. They can be purchased.

I've seen one used as a top link on a land scape box. Run it in to dig and out to smooth.
