I gave $1000 for one with rubber mounted teeth, no dolly wheel. I guess I don't understand what the dolly is for? to run over the hay? The Little Cowman is only 12 years old and he can roll 2 windrows together and not leave a fairy loop at the end of the row.

Do you know where to find wheel bearings for that New Holland 256 rake? Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Picked up a homemade tandem hitch with a 56 and a 256 on it. Weathered paint, fixed one tire , 20 teeth between them for 750.00 CDN funds.

I purchased one 4 or 5 months ago from a dealer in Missouri for $800. It didn't have the dolly wheels. Paint, tires, gearbox, etc. were all in pretty good shape. Having looked at others though I think this one was a pretty good buy as most were over $1,000.

Minimum of $1000 in most of the Northeast.

I was at a consignment sale in spring that had 5, 256 rakes. one really nice one went for $800.00. the 4 well used went for $700.00 each. the nice one sold first and people didn't bid because they thought they would get the well used for $300.00 each. normally in northern Pa. a good 256 will bring $1000.-$1500.

Condition, time of year, region, you name it....

I think that is newer than the 56 and those can go for $500 around here at auction and sometimes more. I am going to guess that is a $1000-$1500 rake. Maybe shouldn't stick my neck out but that is what I have seen similar JD rakes sell for here.

DaveH is about right on the value, but at auction anything can happen. I saw one sell locally 2 weeks ago for $3300.00 I could not believe it. Normally around here a good one goes from $1200 to $1800

I have a really good one with dolly wheels that I gave $1250 for. I am here in east central Missouri. Dolly wheel's seem to be more desirable than without. If I painted mine I could probably get $1500-1750 for it around here.
