I went to $3.50 July 1, $4.25 Aug 1, and $4.75 Sept 1. Trucking, I'd been charging $2 a loaded mile with a $50 minimum plus handling. Went up yesterday on that too with the fuel price increases. Hay's moving fast here, wish I had more to sell. Sold 1000 bales of 2 year old timothy today, really only have a couple of hundred square bales right now not spoken for. Hoping for 1 more rain in a couple of weeks. Round bales are where the real pressure is here, just not seeing them, not good stuff at least.

well said old and others. late years we have worked it to2.50 and 3 in the summer more in the winter. My sarcastic opinion is if they want it they must pay i seem to have no problem moving it. the 1.75 people are going out fast and low quality hay you get what you pay for. We need to unionize or use collective barganing it is time crops were worth something. For years you were lucky to pay your taxes on hay my !@#$% word!

Where i live in Minnesota there was so much 1st crop that hay isn't worth much more than it was last year. But the crop was almost double that of last year. I guess the price would depend alot on where you live and the weather they've been having!!

Well because of the gas prices every thing will go up. If hay only goes up that much some one is getting left out in the cold.

Yes, hay prices will go up but the farmer will see no more net profit (probably less) than last year. The cost of trucking bulky hay will go way up and the farmer won't see any of this money. Plus the price of twine has gone up 60% since last year and the fuel the farmer needs to put up the hay plus the price of parts to keep the equipment going. The plight of the farmer continues.

with the increase in fuel the hay prices have to go up. Fuel is up 50% from this time last year. Twine price also. People complain, but they don't have their own equipment so just see the hay prices going up, not our expences.

im in Australia with a bad season last year meadow pasture hay was and i paid it $9 for a small square bale..
is was not uncommon to hear dairy farmers paying up to $200 for a roll of hay...
the smart ppl out there hay early in the season.
so this year most of my place is going to hay.
and ill be storing the excess and not selling it soon as its cut n baled,,if i got storage ill hang on to it,, worth more stored..and small squares are getting harder to get around here..
labour in tensive. but ppl will pay a premium for it, and if ive got good hay stored and a bad season comes aloong.. stored hay be better than money in the bank for me i m thinking,,
thats the theory,, yet to be put to the test ..
if my observations are right,,and i just hold on to what i got,,in a good year till a bad on comes,,..be worth it..most ppl to survive droughts here have had grain and hay stored from goos seasons to use in bad times to tide them over,,

Dan in Alberta here a few years ago in the drought we seen those prices too for hay. Square bales were going as high as $12!!

This summer we have lots of hay just it was diffucult to get a lot of good horse hay put up. We only make squares for the horse market and it was a tough summer.

"My" prices are anywhere from $2 to $4 (depends on quality) for a aprox. 55lb bale of hay. That price is delievered and stacked in the customers yard in stacks of 160 bales. I have a truck that moves the whole stack at once makes things easier.

I can't see the price going up here locally this fall. But if fuel is this high next year along with other inputs I can see an increase coming.

Hi Dan.. yeah hay here around $5 a bale..
the horse market is a good one to get,, if you got good hay theyll pay,,and travel to
i dont have a truck so are farm prices frieght would be added cost to buyer.. which is normal here.. unless was equipped and ppl where buying a full load and wasnt too far away..
would work labour and fuel in to price,,
discount for bulk buyer,,
ill hold some back for bad years too come they always do.. are like shares n stocks,, and supply and demand,,up n down like a yo yo.. so ill save some always,,
