Is there any advantage or disadvantage to spraying broadleaf killer this late in the growing season? I have 2 fields that were hit pretty hard this summer and would like to staighten them out a little bit before next season or am I wasting money this year? I live in western PA.

I should have mentioned these are hay fields that I am trying to reclaim that so far have two cuttings off of them. It seems the major weed problem I have is spotted knapweed which should be a perennial. It was a good summer with rain right when this weed really begins to mature and it was pretty nasty in places. I really don't want to spend alot of money on tilling and replanting as there is still some nice orchardgrass and clover growing.

A perannual in grass, then go for it if it is growing now. Will knock it down, perhaps not kill it this time of year, but knocked down, it will be easier to clean up next spring. Do not forget to follow up on it next spring tho. Perannuals often take several shots to really get rid of them, might as well start now.

Getting ready to hit 60 acres this weekend for notilling triticale into it. Half gets generic Roundup +2,4-D LVE, and half Gramoxone.

I like to do a roundup+2,4d application late in the year. Mostly I do it around stonewalls ect.. In a field setting, I agree with the others, depends on the weeds. Quackgrass, go for it. Lambsquarters/pigweed maybe

probably too late for this year. They probably already have matured and have produced seed heads. If they have recently germinated the winter will get them before they produce seed. I'm assuming this would be pasture?? Best time to control broadleaf weeds is in the spring. Brushhogging may be your best option this late in the season. At least you won't have to look at them all winter.

Late Summer is actually the best time to get Canada Thistle with 2,4D and Banvel, IF it has been kept mowed for the earlier part of the year and prevented from getting big and going to seed.

It depends. What kind of weeds? Annual or perrenial? Have they seeded out already? What is the field used for? Some more details and we can help.

I just sprayed most of our pasture areas about a month ago, it really helped knock down the weeds. I was worried before hand about doing it this late in the year, but I think it has helped. I had been mowing a lot to keep them from making seed heads and spreading seed, now I don't have to as the weeds have disappeared.
