I was baling along last night when all of a sudden the baler stopped moving and I could not get get the tractor stopped in time to avoid snapping off two hydraulic couplings from my Farmall 560D. The weld on the John Deere equal angle hitch pin gave way and left the tongue sitting on the ground. I am not a mechanical engineer, but why would John Deere butt weld this pin to the hitch instead of running it through the hitch and welding it in place on the back side?

I was trying a used JD Disc moco from the local dealer when the same thing happened to me. I fixed it by drilling an 1 1/4 hole in the hitch and bolting a hitch pin in. Better than new. After that I didn't buy the moco. I've since rewelded the pin on my present moco. Over time the pivot ball wears into the weld.

Got the pin rewelded and the hydraulics fixed (two new nipples). Finished the baling without a problem. From now on I'll be keeping an eye on that weld!
