I"m looking around for a six row planter and I was wanting opinions as to what would be the way to go. Right now I"m not really biased to any brands just takin what I can get because I don"t want to spend more than $2500. Thanks for all the help. JaredM

I have an IH 800 6-row in really good shape with corn, soybean, and milo drums and sprockets set up for 30 inch rows. Actually my brother is selling it. We used it this spring to plant our beans. Did an excellent job. Not sure what he wants for price, but I know it's around $2,000 obo. His # is (913) 927-3764 if you're interested. We are located an hour southwest of Kansas city Kansas. Jared, I live in Pataskala - there is an Implement dealer there that has a JD 1240 Plateless planter that he wanted to sell me for 150 bucks. Its four row and most of the parts you can still get from Deere - not exactly what you want, but it still works and it was shedded.

BTW he's across from the Granville Mill on SR 310 north of town - I was going to get it, but the cost of fixing the Massey Ferguson is starting to get pricy and draining my funds for other projects ;)

Yea thats Jim Walters place he's a friend of my boss 1240 is a four row they made a 1260 six row but I've only seen a few. In my opinion a four is to small for me especially with high fuel prices.

Yeah I understand - I was going to get it myself - this was before I found that my Massey 135 was such bad shape. You should go talk to Howard Emswiler, the guy who farms my family's land about one. Did you go over to Tri-Greens? I've seen 694 Planters there....

I was at Tri Green and Green and Sons last week we went early Tuesday morning and not much was there yet in terms of planters. Green and Sons had a 7000 6 row but I didn't ask about it I was looking for tires. I'd like the planter to be a no-till so I not really leaning towards a 694 thanks for the input though. JaredM

Depends alot on your tillage practices. I have Buffalo planters. I feel they are hands down the best for planting through tough residue. If I were working it up to a fine powder, I might be sold on other brands. Let us know more about what you expect from the planter.

I live about 25 miles east of Columbus, Ohio and I need one that will handle about 500 acres with minimal downtime and and accurate preferable a plate planter since they are fairly simple.

Good luck. From my experience, for less than $2500, any 6 row narrow 7000 you get will be somebody else"s worn out junk. If you want something that"s going to give you minimal downtime on 500 acres, you"re looking at spending at least $5000 or more, either on a decent planter or rebuilding a beater.

JD 7000 is the way to go. Although at $2500 you might be buying the bottom of the barrel.
