I need four new axle stakes for a hay wagon I am rebuilding. These are metal brackets that tie the main beams to the axles of the wagon. Are they available aftermarket? My wagon has no tag to identify it.

Hi , Get some 3/16" x 2" ( or if you can determine the material thickness of the axle tubes get the same thickness but no thicker ) C-channel with the inside width the same as the outside width of the axle . Cut the back side out about 4" to form two "ears" on the sides of the channel and weld them on or drill 2 holes of at least 1/2" diameter and 2" apart vertically all the way though the axle and bolt them on with grade 5 bolts , a flat washer under the head and all metal self locking nuts AND split washers . Don't use ungraded or grade 2 bolts , nuts or washers . You don't want overkill here either if you want the axle tubes to last . You want a weak link somewhere but not the tube itself , why ruin a good gear ? If you decide to weld them on you still need a weak area so you don't ruin the tube by ripping the bolster off . That's why most only bolt one end ( your choice , just remember that you normally start stacking at the rear of the rack ;) ) and chain or channel the other . And usually with only one through bolt or one lag bolt almost all the way through the stringer/runner/beam . IMHO . Good luck ....Randy

We have never since 1946 had a wagon without bolting all 4 corners fast and never had any of the problems they are all talking about. Years ago dad did custom baling and after loosing a couple of beds that were not bolted down like that he would no longer pull them, either use ours or drop on ground. Right noe I have if I count corectly I have 9 flat beds and 5 hopper beds and ALL are bolted down on all 4 corners.

Just have the local welding shop weld either channel or angles in place of the originals.
