I would really love to have a corn planter. My tractor doesn't have a 3 point hitch but I recently found a Dearborn 3 point 2-row corn planter for sale for $75.

Is there any thing I could do to convert this to use with my Farmall H?

Tonys Tractors has them for 450-490 plus the cost of the cylinder. I put a 3 point on one of our AC C"s so I could run a post hole digger on it used the heck out of it for years until pop got his Kubota. But then again you got a long time till planting time and you might be able to find a mounted planter for your farmall saw one go for abot 150 at a sale a few years ago but it was complete. If you have good welding skills you could adapt the 3 point one or just make a few brackets for the back of your tractor to hook it to. Nothing beats a 3 point though for keeping the ends of your rows spaced nice and straight just line up the tractor and lower it down. T.J.

There are carts made to use to move 3 point equipment back of your pickup truck. One place when I go up to see my amish friends they have setting in the yard a horse drawn forecart with a 3 point rear tractor blade on it to grade their drive so it is possible to use a 3 point without a tractor. Just have to decide what to spend and by the way you WILL NOT find the planter plates you want for that Dearborn Planter. The only planters you will find plates for are J D & IHC

If you don't want to invest in a 3 point for the "H" don't and alway be sorry you didn't. Otherwise buy a pull type planter so you can do it right. 75 bucks will go a long ways toward the purchase of an old 2 row pull type in reasonable condition with the plates you'll require. Good Luck.....

Gary,
The cheapest way would be to get a 3 point for the H. Van

I Agree with Van. Convert the H to 3 point. I run a Ferguson and a Massey Ferguson, both with 3 point. Life would be pretty miserable if I had to go back to older tractors without it. You can change implements in a few minutes easily. You said you wanted to use a corn planter. But you are goind to need other things to support a corn planter, like a plow, and disk, and some sort of mower or bursh hog to cut the weeds around the edge of the field, and maybe a post hole digger to build a fence around the corn patch to keep the deer and coons out. The list is endless, Cat 1 3point equipment is all enterchangable.

I've already got the following trailer equipment: plow, 2 discs, cultivator, and brush hog.

I'm not real excited about paying almost 700 dollars for a Saginaw Hitch just so I can use a 75 dollar planter.

Yeah, they aren't cheap, but I think it was the best $625 I ever put into a tractor. And I can still use pull behind equipment, since the Saginaw lets you keep your drawbar, unlike some other aftermarket hitchs. I like the 3 pt. on my H better than my neighbor's 8n. Heavier construction, both sides adjust, 2 clyinders, can lift the world - including the tractor, while the Ford is limited to 800 (?) lbs. And it makes it easier to climb up on the old girl!!!! Easy.

You can buy a lot of old planters for less than what it would cost to add a 3ph to your tractor, but a 3ph would let you add other implements.
