Trip plow keeps tripping

I have an old 2 bottom trip plow. One side has tripped before and been reset with no problem. Now the other side has tripped and appears to reset when I back up but as soon as I start to plow it trips again.

Can anyone educate me on what might be wrong and how to correct it?

Just replaced the same reset locks spring yesterday for third time with a new one this time on 565 oliver plow. If you need picture I'll look in here later and snap one or two for you.

All makes are different, some self relatch others are shear pin. We need a make and model to help

could be everal things. The springs inside the trip housing on the trip wheel could have broken, or stretched, or came off their holders. The spring that holds your trip handle back could be too weak and not holding the trip handle back thereb y holding the roller dog in the slot needed to keep it in place. The rollar on the trip handle might not be inline with the slot and be comeing into it at an angle. the rollar might be slidding sideways and missing the3 catch on the trip wheel. The slots inside the trip drum on the trip wheel might be caked full of old greasae and not allowing the inside rollars to fall in those slots, which coensides with weak springs. Youll haver to pull the trip wheel to see whats wrong iof anything inside. oncew you do, clean out all of the old dried caked in grease in the slots, replace the springs with new, ( and thatsd a chore), and reeattach wheel. Id make sure the trip lever spring was tight enough first. Save alot of time if thats all it is. Good luck

I called the dealer I bought the plow from. He thinks it's a Pittsburgh. He told me to check for grease or oil on the trip mechanism. I bought some easy-off oven cleaner and sprayed it on all components involved in the tripping and let it disolve any grease then rinsed. I also took off the access cover of both bottoms and found that the trip mechanism wasn't dropping completely on the faulty side. I used a crowbar and worked the mechanism about 100 times while flushing it out with a hose. Eventually it worked freely and I put it back together and it worked.
