What is the proper method to set up a sickle bar mower. I just bought a 501 three point and would like to do it right. I thought I could figure it out but the last time I tried to use a mower like this (an IH 100)the big pully broke and now I can not find a replacement part. Don't want this to happen again. Mean while I ordered a manual. Thanks in advance.

sounds like knife is out of register. section should line up with guard at each end of stroke. cutterbar needs to have lead (end ahead of inside) small farm journal has a good book haying with horses shows how to set up mowers

Just exactly what part of that pulley did you break? Was the 100 a sheer pin or slip clutch set up. I find it hard to believe that this pulley could be broked during operation. Maby the gag rod or other part got into it.

Did you try to locate a pulley at your local Ford Tractor dealer?
Unless it's a weird shaft size, a replacement pulley should be easy to locate.
I know that TSC and Rural King both carry pulleys for farm equipment in various sizes.

Sorry - Got the mowers backwards - Replace the word "Ford" with the words "Case / IH"...
