Does anyone have these two rakes hooked together to make a V rake? I am looking at a 258 rake to go with my 256 rake and I was wondering how it worked, seems like when you turn they would hit each other. I will be raking flat hay behind a sickle mower not raking two windrows together after a mower conditioner. Thanks for any advice

Here is what you need. It is a bridge hitch that has an old combine steering axle on the rear with a simple cylinder attached to the tractor hydraulics. With the two rakes you listed, it can not be a V-Rake but can cascade two windrows together.

Hay, I like that and good pics too.

Is that a normal 8inch stroke cyl or is it longer? Do you use the hyd steering to help around the corners? That would be nice!

When raking double windrows does the first have to go under the axle or will it go to the side of the wheel?

If one is a left hand and the other a right hand rake it will work. Make a straight tool bar to hitch them to. If they are both left or both right you would need to make a L shaped hitch to hook them to. I have one of those made by NH, L shaped has a caster wheel in the front end of the L and an adjustable wheel on the back. The adjustable wheel is so you can vary the tracking width between the rakes. It is made so it can be flipped over to rake either two windrows or one combined. It works really well and I use it all the time. I can post a pic if you would like.

Here is a pic of one. This one is set to rake two windrows together. To make two windrows flip it over and turn the caster wheel over. It's not real good on keeping the windrows together on the corners but saves alot of time. In the pic you can see where the back wheel is bolted on. It adjusts there to angle the wheel to change the traking width.

My memery is not the best, but I think if you want a v rake you will need a 260 not a 258

If you are talking about a left hand and a right hand. I do not know why it wouldn't work. I have seen them hooked up that way.

Willy, I think what your trying to do can't be accomlished with these rakes. The main difference with them will be the width of the swath they cover. I think what you are wanting 2 rakes in tandom. For the that you can use (2)256 or 258's. As you describe you would want a right & left hand roll. This won't work well for you. Good luck.
