We have what I think is a john deer disk with hyd lift. I will look at it better tonight. We have one of the sections off of it becasue the bearing/bushing that the disk shafts ride on is completly gone and it squals really bad. We can get the nut off the end but how do you get the disk sections off to get to the bad bearing? Any help would be great. The bearing housing number is 8151078 if that helps anyone to help me find a replacement. thanks for the help

If you think it is a john deere see what sounds the most like it. #1 KBA, pulltype frame with a wheel carier with gangs supported by chains, fully flexible #2 Rigid frame with gang angle adjustment #3 Rigid frame with NO gang angle adjustment #4 heavy flexible frame #5 offset disc all avaible with the old style grease type bearings or newer style with sealed greaseless bearings. if blades don't want to slide off check for groves worn in shaft from loose blades

I just bought and redid a '65 JD 11' disc harrow that had several bearings out. If on the rear, take the nut off and bang her (the axle) out with a lot of penetrating oil on the joints. If on the front, you have to drop the assembly to get the axle out.

The bearins had a cast iron housing (1 thru bolt and one additional alignment bolt). In the housing was a snap ring to hold the bearing and 2 seals. JD house had all the necessary parts. Was amazed.

Step 1: I think by reading your post you have done this - you take the bolts out of the bearing holders so you can remove the whole gang of disks away from the main disk -

Step 2: Start at the nut end and just slide everything off that end

Step 3: Cuss a lot, get some oil - tap a lot cuss some more - try some wedges - let i soak some - tap some more - BECAUSE let me tell you they aren't just going to slide off as easy as I said in step #2....

Reassembly is rather easy....

If it is the old cast iron housing with the twin cone bearing setup on the old JD, be sitting down. Last bearing I bought was $90 some years ago, & that was cheap at Shoup. JD wanted more.

If it is a newer single bearing style, get one out & take it to a NAPA or other bearing supplier, will be a lot cheaper than the dealer.

No need to know the model or make. Just take one of the good bearings and have them match it up. Better replace the others on the gang while it is down. Won't be long before they go bad too.

If your local parts salesman has 30 years experience like mine had, you tell him a couple things about the harrow and he guesses. Mine guessed 2 types and it was the second one he guessed. It was like an FW or something like that. I can go out to the shop and look it up if I have to but it isn't necessarily the same as yours.
