Ok, heres the deal. We currently have a Case IH 8430 Round baler, Bought it new, 4 to 5 years old. It does a decent job, but have trouble with the pickup jamming and making loose bales. With the exception of the tedder, wich is a hesston, all our other hay equipment and our manure spreader is New Holland. I really respect New Hollands equipment, and i would like to have a NH Round Baler. What i would like to know is what is my Round baler worth, and what are the best NH balers made. any age considered, i just need to know what to look at on them. Do any of them have weak points? Looking to make large tight bales. I want the net wrap, not twine. Also what are you alls thoughts on wraping bales in the white plastic? Located in south western ohio.
all replies encouraged, thanks in advance, Mike

Mike

NH's roll belt balers have changed very little over the years. The 660's,664's and 688's are almost identical. The BR780 has different sheet metal, but the basic baler is the same. On 660 and 664 models check to see that the pickup cam track is not worn out. If it is the replacement is inner and outer parts from the 688. Stay away from the endless belts. My 664 has them. Great when they work. One delaminated on me this year and had to be replaced. Looks like others are not far behind. If you want to keep then endless it is an 8 hour job to strip all the rollers to replace the belt. As you can guess I put in a laced belt. Was told by my dealer that others tried to put lacings in the old endless belts as a repair, but due to different internal construction the lacings will not hold for 1 day. The first year of the BR780's had problems, but those were suposedly fixed. Personally I would steer clear of the '03 models.

These are awesome balers. 20 bales an hour no sweat. This summer I timed myself in huge windrows the guy on the rake made. One minute and ten seconds from start of one bale to start of the next. That works out to 51 bales an hour. Your capacity is limited only by the size of the windrow and how fast you can travel. If the windrow fits under the tractor, the baler will handle it.

Hope this helps.

John

Man that's baling. I mean you are really running the 4230's pedal to the metal. Grin

If I am not mistaken a Case-IH 8430 is the same as a 540 Hesston? I was always told that was one hell of a little baler. I was close to buying one a few years back. A nice one will bring $6500-$7000 areound here and one not so nice will bring $4000. I am in central missouri.
