ARGH! Walco Whistler with metric shaft?

Having just spent a morning trying to fit a 7/8" nut onto a shaft just a bit too large for it, I am forced to conclude that the spindle shaft on my 5' Walco Whistler is metric. A 1" nut from my trailer hitch ball flops on the shaft. There is a metric size almost exactly 15/16", but of course nobody carries fine threaded, castellated nuts that don't sell. I bought a couple of thin ones to try on the shaft. If they fit, at least I'll know the size.

Though the Walco guy seemed knowledgeable and sympathetic in an email, in four days he hasn't provided any help or useful information, and it took 2 weeks for the original, incorrect part to arrive.

Not good enough.

Rod, You might see if the thin nut you have will take a lock cap like most Chy. cars use on the front axle. Most auto parts houses should have them.(They go over the nut and are held on by the cotter pin)

Can you change the threads to American sizes - or have a shop do it?
