I've got a JD350 9ft. sickle bar mower that I seldom use but is in excellent condition and I've been looking for a 10ft. rotary. I have a 6ft I'd like to keep. I've located a 10ft (3 pt) in fair condition. He'll warranty the gear boxes. Needs paint, blades and safety cover for drive line. Dealer has offered to trade even. He was asking 1200 for the rotary. Do you guys think I'll be getting a good deal?

I would make sure he includes a safety shield for the driveline, unless he wants to be included in a lawsuit.

JD350 sickle bar mowers are a hot commodity, ESPECIALLY with the 9' bar. I've seen 'em sell for as much as $1750 around these parts. Most generally, you could expect $1200 (+ or -) out of one. Since they're a bit harder to come by than a bush hog, they will sell easier, I'd imagine. Not a bad deal, not a great deal. Bottom line is, you're not going to have any "out-of-pocket expense", The dealer is happy too. Best of all worlds....

The thing to remember is, with almost ANY dealer, if he made you that offer, there's profit in it for him, or he wouldn't do it... Question is, is it "profitable" for you?
