Sprayer Pump not working

This is a PTO pump, tag on it says the Hanson Equipment Co. Beloit Ill. Was working great spraying liquid fertilizer, tank ran out, and would not work when I refilled. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Lou

open the pump,clean and use a heavy wt.oil when you put it back .

My son had nerely the same problem last week spraying round up. He usually doesn"t run the tank empty but he did this time. Seems he sucked some crude out of he tank and plugged the filter. He had checked the filter and cleaned it earlier that day and didn"t think to recheck it that quick.

I hook up a garden hose to the inlet and let it run throught the pump to the tank for a minute. Then shut the pump off and hook up the supply line (actually through a fitting as to not get caught up in the pump. Mine do the same thing as yours all the time.

What type of pump- roller or centrifugal? Roller pumps are notorious for not being able to handle many products. Product eats up the rollers, depending what they are made of.

pull the hose off of the pressure side and let a little run out, it probable got vapor locked and needs primed.

Thanks KS but ive replaced the intake hose thought it might be sucking air,taken the exhaust hose off, pored water through it. You name it ,Im afraid it might have to be rebuildt, but I really dont know. Lou

dont be afraid of a rebuild, roller pump kits ive seen are $20-$30 and centrifugal can be rebuilt with new impeller and all for $100. I would think the pump should have a drain plug, I would take that out until liquid runs out that would prime it. Assuming the pump is lower than the tank.

If you have a cracked fitting on the intake side it will suck air and WILL NOT PRIME from right empty. Been there done that, tore the appropriate amount of hair out and enlarged my vocabulary over it.
