We had a crash with our 68, and we broke both needles. I fixed the problem, and I got two new needles. I bolted them in but when I go to turn the machine over the needles come up and hit the underside of the twine disks. I used the jack bolts to adjust the needles as far front as I can but I still cant get them front far enough to come up though. I have the manual and I am doing it as they say. The mount that the needles bolt to doesnt appear bent, but I dont really have any way of knowing where exactly the mount should be. Any ideas?

Hi Mike. If the needles cannot be adjusted high enough to clear the twine disc, then the needle yoke is definately bent to some degree. It doesn't take much of a bend at the mount to change the needles way out at the tip. Heat the needle yoke around the 2 ears where the needles are bolted fast and then have someone handy to put their foot down thru the bale chamber and push on the end of the needle. (Note: Bring the needles points part way up into the chamber). I have bent numerous needle yokes like this out in the field. This should fix you up. Steve

Thanks! I kinda figured I would have to do that, but I wanted reassured before I go bending something. Thanks again for all the NH insight you have.

The needles should come up and pass as close to the twine disks as possible without touching, like within 1/8" or so. The needles are adjusted using the mounting bolts.

yup, thats what I am trying to do, but I have it adjusted all the way out, and it still doesnt clear the twine disks. Makes me think something got bent in the collision.
