Need Easy Fix to Drive a hay Wagon into barn..

I have a JD3010D NF. I cannot for the life of me back the wagon exactly where I need it. I have heard that pushing it in the barn is significantly easier. is there a handy dandy easy fix to rigging up a hitch for the front for this purpose? I do have some big hole for bolts to go in(Would be used for front weight if I had any)...

And yes I realize that I should learn to back it in...and no I do not have a drive through barn...

At my place I have to make a 45 deg turn to get into the barn.
I use a 8 foot hitch that pins on the back of the hay rack and use my truck to push. My Daughter runs the front of the rack and turns it into the barn.
Works like a charm. Also use a set of walkie Talkies just so we can keep on the same page.

Hey Jim its not all that dangerous. I creep it along and stop every 5 feet and wait for the ok.
Tried the Wife on it but she hits the barn poles. Tried the wife on the truck too. That didnt go well. My Daughter has a knack for it. Perfect every time.
Is there risk? Sure is cant, find to much on a farm that does not have risk. 99% of the risk I take. Only 2 jobs I need help on. Daughter drives the truck wile dad puts the bales on the rack. and getting the wagon in the barn. Cant do it my self or I would.

I guess I'm a little late on this one but we pushed them in for years with an old truck wheel and tire mounted on the front of the tractor for a pusher, bolted a plank to the back of the wagons. There are more reasons to push a wagon in than just not being able to back it in. Sometimes you just don't want the tractor in the way.

I have a front hitch mounted to the front end of my Farmall B. It works great for pushing empty wagons into the barn. I am going to put one on the front of my Ollie 1800.

My neighbor has them on most of his tractors, really helps when pushing a load of 250 bale into the barn!! Of course I was using a 4230 or a 4055 so being pushed around wasn't an issue.

We used to push our hay wagons in the barn as a kid. We always had an 8 foot post with metal lips at the entrance of the barn. It was a long barn to drive in so with didn't wrestle with backing up. We would rest the post on the tractor's front axle and the wagon's rear axle, have someone align the tongue and watch not to drive trough the barn.

We always used the bobcat to shove wagons in the barn but don't be ashamed that you can't back a wagon not all can do it but using the brakes to steer on a NF tractor makes backing easier

It's quite a bit easier to back the wagons in behind the tractor than to back them in behind the baler. Been there, done that.

The secret to backing a wagon is to watch the tongue and steer the tongue with the tractor drawbar. If you only watch the wagon you will over correct or react to late.
Now go out and practice.

By the time you get done farting around building a hitch on the front you"d be able to teach yourself how to back up wagons well IMO. My brother and I could put a wagon darn near anywhere we needed it..... ..... Then my grandfather came over some day and said we were wasting time backing them, in his words, "Real Men push wagons in"..... ..... And he had hitches put in the front of all his tractors. Well, me and my brother laughed it off as we knew better. Then a few years later we bought a tractor with a hitch on the front. We had to move acouple of hay wagons and chopper wagons out of the barn the one day and re-arrange them..... ....So for the heck of it we tried that hitch on the front.

We wasted more time pushing just one of kicker wagons in with that stupid front hitch..... ...We could have had them all backed in that amount of time. Needless to say, we riped that stupid hitch off the front of that tractor so fast it would make your head spin.

We used to push wagons in with a short (6') pole hooked to the front hitch on the tractor and the rear of the wagon. Then someone picked up the wagon tounge and guided it into the barn. You could even do it without a front hitch, just back the tractor.

A front hitch works great but be careful about a full wagon, especially if you have a slope to push up. The pressure can lift the front end of the tractor and push it sideways. I know!

Been there, done that.

Mostly unload out side, but if I do, I have bays (no trying to turn it in or maneuver in barn) I line up, lock the tongue, and it only go's straight back.

I've seen a lot on ball hitches on the front bumper to push boats into the water. Putting one on a NF 3010 could be a job. How about using your pickup to push it in the barn? Simple winch in back end of barn?

Use the two holes on the front of the tractor- either find a heavy angle iron or make one with two pieces of half-inch flat stock welded at 90 degrees.

I find it signicantly easier to push with the front of my tractor. Getten old get a stiff neck with all that backing.Its worth your while to make up a hitch for the front end of your JD. Just my opinion. Lou

sometimes its easier to push sometimes its not.

if the wagon is loaded heavy you tend to scoot the front end of the tractor before you move the tounge of the wagon...

other than that... I just had to learn how to back myself... I aint good as my dad and probably never will be--- as a kid he won district contest but didnt get to go to the state. then it just so happens the tractor club we belong to had a contest and low and be hold the guy that won the championship that year is in the club. Long story short dad beat him by 1 whole min. and no one else was close to either of them.
