I have some wet land, and it is on a slight incline. The problem is when it was cleared, the loader gouged some holes, 6inches to 12 inches deep. These are filling with water. I want to dig a trench down the incline, to dry out the land, and drain these holes. What is the best implement? I have a 30 HP tractor Massey TO-30. I have a blade, boxblade, rootrake. Any thoughts?

First take the box blade and fill the holes. Then take the back blade and contour the area so that you have it draining like you want it. You may have to loosen the dirt some to get it to move where you need it. One way of doing that is to turn the blade to its maximum angle while pulling and shorten the top link as much as possible. This makes a psuedo turning plow that will gouge in and peel the dirt back. Once you have gentle contours that will drain plant grass and put down some straw to hold the ground until the grass comes up. Then it will drain and not be a gulley

A single bottom plow will make a trench - tho a ridge is thrown to one side.

I guess I would not go the route you are, as you will quickly make gullies that wreck your field.

I would level out the ruts when a dry period comes & let the water run off all across the surface; or I would run tile to drain the ground if the first doesn't apply.

Surface trenches become surface gullies very rapidly 'here'.

You want to be careful about digging a trench that runs downhill, If you get a heavy rain, that trench will quickly become a deep gully, and will only get worse from there.

I have rented a power drive trencher for about $150 a day-$100 for 1/2 day. They will go about 4 feet deep and about 4 inches wide. Depending on how many rocks and roots you can trench in a lot of feet in 1/2 day.

Im looking for a single bottom plow, they work well. once it dries you go over it with a york rake or your back blade. Lou

Thanks All.
I am going to try to smooth as much as I can with the Boxblade. Maybe create some gullies along the borders. Maybe I can dry this sucker out. This has been one wet summer.
