Just wanted to ask all to continue prayers for our troops. I attended my son's graduation from basic training this past Friday. He had his "turning blue" ceremony this past Thursday. He's in the U.S. Army 2nd Batallion 58th Infantry, Charlie Company, 2nd Platoon. Most of the grads there Friday were leaving to report to their posts and some were being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Allen, my son, is being held at Fort Benning for 2 - 6 weeks to begin Airborne training. Once Airborne starts, it will last 3-4 weeks and then he will be assigned to the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. From Fort Bragg, it appears as though he may be sent to Iraq. Please remember him and all the other soldiers who serve to protect us.
Sorry for going on so long. It's just really got me torn up that he's there. I'm so proud but at the same time so scared for him.

I don't have any children but my nephew just enlisted 2 weeks ago . He's 26 . Take it one day at a time . He'll be fine . Just like the majority of them . My wifes brother was among the 47 sailors that were lost in a peacetime accident aboard the USS IOWA in 1989 . So just being over in Irag or wherever ...They are doing what they signed up to do . I support every one of them ! I agree that the gov should relax the restrictions they have about defending ourselves . These guys should have the option to shoot first and ask questions later . But that's just my opinion . I know quite a few guy's that are over there right now . One of them worked for me till about 3 weeks ago when he was shipped out unexpectedly with his NG unit . He thought he was to go to his two weeker when they called him off the bus and told him he had a week to get his affairs in order . They are always with us ...Randy

i'm with you fella i pray for all those soldier's did my time in the first gulf war but, nothing like this one. Everytime i think of them young kids 18 on up it's nerve racking i'm over seas now in kosovo and i have a youngun and couldn[t imagine what it would be like for me if he was over there it's hard enough over here just without him and the family sometimes it helps if i go to this web site a buddy of mine sent me one time a couple of years back maybe you have seen it.It gives a little perspective but, not much maybe when you see it you will feel a little better of what those kids are fighting for my prayers are with you friend. just copy and paste in your browser and make sure you have your speakers up it's kinda sad for me but, it still doesn't solve your problems may god be with you and your family and everyone else that has relatives over there

Dont forget, The USA has the best troops, the best equipment, and the best reason for going to kick the H*ll of out terrorists. I wish your son well, it is just too bad that the Government of the USA is run by pansys and we cant just go in and kick a$$ and exterminate the terrorists and be back for Sunday dinner. Nuff said.

Let's just say that a far away country invades your borders while not declaring war on you. Let's say they 'liberate' you from your horrible leader. Let's say they annihilate your infrastructure looking for weapons of mass destruction. And then after much searching, they don't find any weapons (which of course wouldn't be the case in your situation). Now you have no electricity, drinking water, there are checkpoints everywhere, and your sons and daughters can't further their education. You might want to start fighting back after a while too. And then what? You'd be called heroes by your countrymen for doing what you believe in. Makes you think about perspective that you don't have from the media. I bet that poor Ohio town was proud but scared that their boys went over there, but when it hits their own hearts, well, now they're not so supportive of the whole idea. Life is a series of many rolls of the dice, but going the military route causes you to roll the dice a lot more. The cold truth.

Maple Leaf- I was going to type out a long paragraph on what I think of people like. But, you're just not worth it.

My unit was attached to the 82nd Airborne for the summer of 2003 in Baghdad. They are a great bunch of soldiers, very well trained, very motivated, they take great care of each other, they took great care of us as well even though we were national guard military police pukes, haha.

Our soldiers, especially the combat arms soldiers, get some of the best training in the world and are backed up by the best support system out there.

With the insurgency in Iraq, it is a tough place to be deployed to and is very challenging to be there and do your duty. Keep in mind the odds are very much in his favor on getting home unscathed if/when he does go there.

I will include him in my prayers along with your family and everyone else who is there or has loved ones serving there. I think it was harder on my wife and family while I was over there than it was on me, all I had to do was do my job and they had to worry about me all the time.

Our unit was very honored that the 82nd lets us wear their shoulder patch ( AA for airborne army ) as our combat patch. The were pretty pleased with the job we did for them.

We don't wear the Airborne tab above it unless we are airbone qualified which most of us aren't, of course.

He will be included with our prayers. Our Son is also stationed at Ft Bragg with the 7th Special Forces Group.They just returned from the Afghan/Pakistan border. I understand your concern. The phone calls are anticipated and very precious. I believe the training our kids are receiving is far superior to the training programs of past and in turn gives us confidence in their ability to perform. Our family is very proud of all the military personnel serving our country and wish your Son Good Luck. Our Son has been home a week and is returning to Bragg for his next assignment.Your post stirred memories of the past 2.5 years visiting Benning and Bragg for graduation ceremonies. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

First of all, THANK him for defending US. After a few weeks of 'pushing up Georgia', he'll be a paratrooper in one of our proudest military units. The discipline, determination, and can do attitude (Today's 'git 'er done') that he gains now will last a lifetime. Worry is normal, but temper that with knowing that our support is endless.

I wish him well, but for one of my son's, he didn't have to go into the service and go into a combat area to be in "harm's way". The Texas highway system did him in at age 21. Was to be married 2 months later.

Just because he's over there doesn't mean he will be harmed. If it's meant to be it will. If not it won't. Your worrying about it will not change it and is not healty for you.
