I have a JD sickle-bar mower that appears to have been modified to fit on a Farmal. I want to clean it up and use it with my Farmal H. Parts numbers on the face plates all are of the sort Z971-H+, Z1038-H+, Z1051 and Z1052.

Can anyone tell me where to find more info on this mower?

I find similar parts numbers in the parts catalog for the JD #5 mower. I have not found those exact parts numbers but many start with "Z" and I do not know if that is significant. If it is a semi-mounted mower I would say chances are that is what you have. The #5 was made to fit just about every tractor on the market at the time and parts were available to make it fit IH tractors.
This is a very nice mower. Many parts still available from JD. Many parts mowers sitting around to scavange also. I have two that I still use for cutting hay. My only complaint is that they are a pain to put on the tractor being a little awkward when detached. Once on the tractor they are good machines. Get a manual on ebay or from JD before using and watch your fingers when raising the bar on any sickle mower.

I have recently purchased a Deere sickle bar mower with a pitman arm. With the help of a neighbor, I have it running fine on my Kuboto tractor. I would like to know how to identify the age of this implement. It appears that the identification numbers are as follows: Type E39NM Serial # 020843E. Any suggestions would be appreciates.

Don't know what response etiquette is, but thanks to Dave H (MI) for the identification info. Big help, and I appreciate your time and effort. /
