Are those 241 IH round balers any good? What should a guy look for when purchasing one and any problem areas? Thanks.

I had one for a wile. Sold it last winter.
Kinda wish I still had it. Makes nice bales but is a fussy rig to use if the hay is not just right.
$300 tops is what I would pay.
Good to have around for the money you pay for it.
If your doing 5, 10, 20 acres of hay why pay more?
Can bale with as little as 29 hp.
easy to work on. IH has parts for a price :-)

Oh shy away if it has the steel compresion roller. Get the one with the rubber roller.
If it breaks some thing big Junk it, get another one.

i have one sitting in my barn for the last 6 years- i use my neighbor's new holland. the 241 is hard to start the bale, can't take big wads without choking, don't even look at damp hay, your arm will go numb pulling the string across the bale....thats off the top of my head 6 years later. i'm sure there's more. i'd keep looking.

Run as fast as you can. One of the worst round balers made.

Better off to save a few more bucks and get something a little newer in an open throat baler.

it all depends on what you want to do with it....
I have one - haven't used it this year - square baled instead -

just remember that this is a baler almost 35 to 40 yeas old and the technology of that era....

I have trouble getting bales started because the belts are so smooth and don't get good traction, but once they are started it makes nice bales, you can see what you are doing, the closed throat is no big deal to me, for my 10 to 20 bales a year it works OK

top dollar i would say would be about $500, I paid $210 for mine, so it is OK

I'd look it over real long & real hard - until I found a better baler with an open throat.

Kelly C had one for a year or so, he will likely chime in.
