I don"t have any first hand knowledge of the Vicons, but here"s some info that I overheard at a local dealer(on straight disc mowers, not a discbine) that"s pretty trust worthy. The Vicons were one of the first in the disc mower business. There is a running argument between them and Kuhn as to who has made more worldwide, but either way, you"d think even if they were #2 they"d have to be doing something right. He says the Vicons aren"t as heavily built, but are a lot "slicker" machine. One of the thinest(doesn"t mean the weakest)cutterbars out there. They do an excellent job of cutting. They are a lighter machine, so they don"t take as much tractor to run. He says he"d rather have a Vicon or Kuhn, and he sells those 2 plus Vermeer, Hesston, New Idea, and MF(of course the last three are the same). At any rate, they"ve been around a long time so they a bound to know what they are doing, but with any disc machine that old, it"s probably seen a lot of acres, and any cutterbar that has to be opened up is time consuming and expensive. I"d say hook it up and let it run for a while. Make sure no abnormal noise(they are all loud, and whine, just no growlin"), and then check the cutterbar to see if anything is hot. I bought an older model Kuhn disc mower, no conditioning, earlier this year for $1200 and have been well pleased. One of the best investments I"ve made. But I was lucky, no cutterbar trouble. If it"s been took care of, it"s worth a gamble, but just remember its still a gamble. Clear as mud?? Thought so... Casey
