double end section - dumb question

I just received the new double end sections that I planned to put on the sickle bar of my for 501 mower. So how does this work? It looks like if I remove the last section currently on the bar and replace it with the new double, it will extend beyond the bar itself. Seems like it would break in short order with no support under it. Am I totally off base and the double is meant to replace the last section on the inside closest to the tractor? Or did I just waste $7?

Thanks

_Most_ go on the outside section. However, they do make a reversed one for on the inside as well. Never actually saw one of those, but just on the odd chance, you coulda got the wrong one?

Otherwise as the others say, it sticks out a little bit, it is more likely to get snagged on hard objects, but it will make mowing life much easier. The trade-off. :)

Yes It will stick out there is no place for a rivit in the outside hole. Be care ful mowing close to obstacles as it will protrude out. They are great for preventing clogging on end of sickle. I really like mine.

It sticks out no farther than single you replaced. If it does you need to check register on mower

Goes on the far end, works great to keep the end from plugging. May break when you get too close to buildings, etc. Especially good in short grass that is hard to cut.

it will work well, make sure rivets/bolt on's stay tight. there is an inside version of the same thing. our swathers use both with good success. the inside one is a pita to change though due to head rivets and all.

The double sections work very good. I have 1 1/2 sections on the end of the sickle on my JD #5 and after I put it on it never plugs up.
