How big a disc?

Evening, saw Allan in Ne pics and was wondering. I have an Oliver 1800 C-series. How big a disc can I pull? Saw one at the local implement dealer that appears to be 13 / 14ft. Too big?

Pete: You need between 1.25 and 1.5 hp per blade on 18" or 20" blades. That will let you disk quite deep. Shallow disking will require less hp.

16-20" depending on ground and how heavy of a disk.
1755 pulled a heavy 12"disk and a 16" harrowgator at the same time. Toyed with the 12" by itself. Your 1800C should be equal to the 1755.

Hey Pete,

This one of mine would fit your tractor like a glove. It measures 14.5 feet across the furrow covers when fully angled.

Come get it 'cause I sure need a bigger one, I guess. :>(

Allan's picture reminds me of when I was a kid (47 now). There was farmer in our area who had an 806 and I thought that was the biggest tractor on Earth! They would run a single wheel on the furrow side and a dual on the land side and pull 5 18" plows through heavy Kentucky clay. I didn't know what a PowrTrol was.....I thought the dad burned thing had an automatic transmission! They'd stand up at the wheel, yank the throttle to the limit and take off down the field.....black smoke pouring and dirt rolling off the moldboards like roostertails, then I'd hear that PowrTrol shift....man that brings back a flood of memories from the late 60's. Those folks ran that 806 HARD for at least 30 years, have no idea what kind of maintinence it got, but it plowed tens of thousands of acres over the years.
