yup, like the other guys said. The 850 has no latch, you have to "power down" the gate. Hold the lever til it squeels. If the gate still comes up you'll have to rebuild the cylinders or maybe the valve on your tractor.

cylinders probably need to be rebuilt since they are what holds the gate closed. the 850 doesn't have any other type of lock

the tailgate cylindres are bypassing oil this is a common problem on the 850

I dont recall if the 850 uses a hydraulic lock like and 851 or a manual lock like on the 846. On the 846 you have to hold the hydraulics and let them build up pressure to get the locks down on some tractors. On the 851, any leak off in the baler or tractor can release the valve and allow the tailgate to creep.

Just thought of something,

'Spose he's not holding the hydraulic lever until the lock indicator trips?

Dunno,

Allan

I did that more than once, tailgate banged closed and away I went. 846 I had didnt have an indicator, had to listen for the engine to bog down a little to make sure it built up pressure.

Dave,

Either the tailgate locks are not working properly or are out of adjustment.

If Your tractor has a "Float" position (for front loader contol) on the hydralic control and you push the control lever beyond "down" into "Float" it can release the tail gate. If you have dual outlets use the one without "float"
