I have several fields that have a fair amount of rocks in them, most of the rocks are bigger than baseballs and the dirt is pretty loose too. Will a landscape rake drag the rocks to the end of the field so i can pile them up? or at least gather the rocks up better than doing it by hand. i just would like to know before i spend $300 bucks on one!!

I tried this when I did the finish work around a pond we built. I don't think a landscape rake will work. I really struggled to get the rake to grab the rocks and pile them up. I still have not finished the lanscaping 100%, but after borrowing a rake from a friend, I wont be using it for rocks ever again. I'll probably rent a rock hound. Good Luck.

I've had some success by running the rake at an angle which produces a "windrow" of rocks. The next pass moves the row a few more feet toward wherever you are trying to move them. After I get a row of rocks bunched up, I hire a kid to help pick them up or I get my box blade and/or frontend loader to scoop them up for transport. I think the key is to make the first passes at an angle to dislodge the rocks and get 'em started moving. Good luck
