One for sale kind of near me (3 hrs) a NH 469 mower conditioner, may be time to get out of sickling. A few questions, is this a 7' or a 9'?

Is this a solid model generally? I have always heard NH is the best in mowers.

I believe the 469 is a 9 footer. Mine is anyway. The 467 is the 7 footer. Couple things to look for is the condition of the rubber on the rollers. Those suckers cost a fortune to replace, like around $1,500. If you are a hobby user, you can be a little more casual about the condition, but if you plan to make a living with it, make sure they're not all cracked and peeling. Second, make sure there is NO PLAY in the wobble box. Have the seller crank it up and listen for knocking. Those things go for around $600 to replace, and are a pita to rebuild. Check the condition of the teeth on all the sprockets and the chain wear. Finally, see that there is lube in the gearbox, and all the u-joints are greased. There should be a bar out in front of the reel, this prevents tall grass from wrapping around and plugging up the right side of the reel. Remember, a greasy machine is a healthy machine.
My 469 has served me very well in all types of conditions. Maintain it, and you'll be very happy with it.

the 469 is a 7" model and is a very good solid machine. i am currently using one that had been sitting in the back of a falling down barn for the past ten years i replaced one belt greased it and it now mows as good as a new one.

I finally got through to someone and it is a missprint, the machine is a 479 new holland. Does that change anything in your opinions? He told me its a 9' and that makes sense to how to how you guys described the other numbers. If a 469 is good, a 479 probably is too. He is a nice decent honest sounding fellow. Claims to have just cut 100+ acres, and is getting out of cattle and farming now all together. Its to be a good runner. 2000$ cdn. Hook up and run. I am a small farmer but want to get handier and better at it in case I buy more land I have 3-6 acres of hay to on my land so my investment takes a while to pay off!!! Opinions, not taken as gospel, are truly appreciated. I wont come back and say 'but you said'!!!!!

The little farm guy up the road, DK

479 is a nine foot machine, the next model after the 469. Many guys will tell you the 479 was the best side pull haybine NH or anyone else ever made. The current 488 model is very, very similar.

I have a 479 and like it.
Just based on the very limited sample of machines I have seen, the 469 rollers have often looked to be better than those on the typical 479 machine (like mine), despite the 469 being about a decade older. For price check, I would suggest you look at the New Holland web page that gets you to a list of used machines at (selected) NH dealers. The reason I say this is that $2000 cdn seems to be a bit high, unless the machine is in really nice condition.
