Mower PTO Adapter for TO-30?

I want to use a neighbors new rotary mower on my Ferguson TO-30, but my PTO shaft is too thin. I have the "step-up" adapter, but it doesn't have the grove to lock onto. Is there an adapter to do this? (My adapter, if I recall was used for an Allis Chalmers round baler, and attached via a long cotter pin that went through the baler PTO coupler, adapter and output shaft.)The adapter on the rotary mower is a "twist-lock" type.

You should get a P T O adapter with a built in over running clutch, so that when you stop by pushing in the clutch, the flywheel action of the mower doesn"t push your tractor into a fence or ditch. A TO-30 does not have a live PTO and you can get hurt!

OK, I think I understand. I ended up borrowing my neighbars Koboda and mower, (I would still like to use my tractor because I can get into tighter spaces - his had the front end loader.) - The blades continued to turn for a long time after stopping. So on my TO-30, even with the clutch in, the blades are turning the transmission, and wheels... Could be an unpleasant surprise! Thanks for the info. I found this adapter on eBay: Link So is this PTO clutch a "one way ratchet", that only slips when the PTO impliment is turning faster than the input shaft?

Charles I"m not sharpe enough with computer to look up what you are looking at on E-bay, but sure sounds right. It should fit the pto on tractor 1 1/8 inch, and pto shaft 1 3/8 inch, and work like a ratchet. The older tractors like the TO-20 and T0-30 where the same clutch controls everthing, the flywheel action of the implement can make the tractor move several feet or yards after you release the clutch, and that can be bad if you are headed for a ditch, creek, rock, barbed wire fence, and various other things that can damage you. Was a story last winter about a guy driving a non running tractor out of where he got it to somewhere he could load it by running the PTO with a briggs and stratton engine. Put tractor and PTO in gear, and held the clutch down. It went real slow but it went.

If you can find a later model shaft with the grove in it, you might measure it. Then see if you can grind your own "groove" in the 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 adapter you already have.

yes, any new adapter you buy will have the grove cut in it. Yours must be a very old style.
