Which Combine Should I Buy

I'm buying a small farm to play around with and I'm looking at buying some of the guy's equipment. He has 2 combines, an Oliver 18 in good working order and an AC All Crop that needs a little work. I've heard a lot of good things about the old All Crops, but I'm leaning towards the Oliver. What do you guys know about these machines? Which one would you get? Thanks.

I just checked out this forum for the first time today. I owned an 18 back in the 60s-70s and liked it. I pulled it with an Oliver 77, but also used a 1650 sometimes on hillier ground. I just started doing some small scale farming after being out for 20 years and looked all spring for an 18 and never found one. I ended up buying an AC66 and just finished my 11 acres of oats and barley last week. The combine worked very well. The AC parts availability from yazallcrop.com (I don't mind giving Tom a plug) is a pretty big advantage for the AC in my opinion. The big difference is the auger header feed on the 18 compared to the canvass on the 66. The Auger is nicer in many ways but it does make the machine more vulnerable to rock damage to the cylinder. All said, I like some of the others would be glad to buy a field ready 18 at that price if I had the chance, but I would now keep my AC also.

All-Crops are good, cant speak for the Oliver. Consider parts availability as well. I can speak for the AllCrop as I run a business that specializes in parts for them exclusively (Gosh was this a shameless plug?) I wont
mention my business name as I dont want to violate the "no advertising" rule-but perhaps I already have...

I don't see how you would have violated anything. Everyone like some brand better than the other brands does that mean they are advertising for their brand of equipment they like? NO We are who we are. If XYZ works for you and you can truthfully say its a good brand or item that only expressing an opinion not advertising. I likely violate the advertising rule the most of any poster but they have banned me to only posting with no references to our dealership. I can not link to our website. Most all of the equipment produced will work. Yes some brands are better than others even for different conditions and different areas of the country. Be honest and true to you beliefs.

The Allcrop is a good combine. You can run about anything for corn to clover through them. Don't know a thing about the Oliver. I think you can run some of the smaller Allcrops with not much hp. I remember seeing Allcrop combines being pulled by WC's and CA's in some of AC's advertizing.

Buy both, keep the Oliver..... ...Sell the AC as it will be worth more to others than the Oliver. Which won"t concern you as the Oliver works.

Cannot say on the Oliver as I have never seen one, never sold in my area, and have been farming for actually 50 years. The AC 60 all crop that is only a 60" cut, the 66 is 66" and the 72 is a 72" cut, should be able to be run with any AC WC, Farmal H, Gas version John Deere B, Massey Harris 101 or 30, Oliver 66 or 70, Ferguson 30, Ford NAA. These tractors range in power from 23 on the kerosine Farmall H to 32Hp on the Ford NAA with most in the 27-28 HP range. Gas Farmal H is 27, Gas John Deere B is 28, Ferguson 30 is 29 and all ran our 60 AC with plenty of power

to say the only difference in the 3 models is length of knife all rest is exactly same except 60-66 is canvas and 72 is auger feed and 66 newer than 60 with 72 newest

38hp min with the gov set tight
60hp will handle nicely if you don't take the Oliver then post where it is and one of us can look into it. If in Ohio I am interested

I own two 72 all crops recent purchases, have yet to use either. They seem to be liked by those who used them. The manual I have does not give a specific HP, all it says is full 3 plow tractor. Im pretty sure my MF 50 diesel will handle the 72. Lou
