I am looking at a used MF 3pt hitch pinwheel rake but can"t find any model # on it, looks like it was a decal that is faded out. It has 4 pinwheels that are ground driven, no pto shaft or wheels. does any one have any info on this rake? Is it a good rake or a poor excuse for a rake? Model #? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

The MF "Fingerwheel" rake, is a good rake. You can flip it around and use it to ted with, as well. They work best in large fields, as they will drag the hay when you make a corner. For small fields, a side delivery rake works better. I have a MF Finger wheel rake that I finally retired last year. It was bought in 1978. The rake teeth finally started breaking too often. The new one I bought (Sitrex), is built identical, and is working great.

Well I guess that settles the rake situation. I cut mostly small fields of irregular shapes. Guess I will start looking for a good side delivery rake. Thanks to all for the info.

If the teeth go all the way to the hub they are practically indestructable at any speed. That's what I have on my John Deere (Darf) rake now. The JD teeth bolt onto the outside edge of the wheel. They are in pairs and break easily unless you go really slow on rough/stony ground.I guesstimate I bought enough teeth to replace broken ones in 25 years to buy at least one new rake.

I have original dealer parts books for the MF29 fingerwheel rake and the MF39 fingerwheel rake. I don't know anything about them, but from the diagrams on the covers of the books, I'd say the MF29 was a 3 point rake and the MF39 a pull behind rake. If you find out you're buying an MF29 and you want this manual, let me know.

#27 comes to mind? Same rake as a Gehl 204--which I had and was a good rake, made by Vicon. Check the bearings in the wheels, about the only thing that can actually be bad on them other than broken teeth.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know how wide this rakes? It doesn't look like it would be more than 8 or 9 feet.

There"s an angle adjustment that gives you 8 to 11 feet, but the wide setting only works in light hay. The heavier the swath is, the more angle you need. There are 3 different ways you can use that rake depending on how you set up the wheels and frame, try to find a manual if you get it.

They are all pretty much the same, manuals for other brands are available on-line & show the various configurations.

The 3pt do not handle huge windrows, don't like strong winds in one direction, and don't do corners at all.

They do handle uneven ground very well, are cheap & simple, and do ok.
