A MF baler may fall on me.

Talking to a fella tonight about working his field and when we were discussing the worthiness of buying the equipment vs. having someone work it the topic came up of an aquaintance with a baler. Been sitting in his shed for years, evidently looks pretty good and he thought the fella just wanted it gone. If he doesn't "just want it gone" but would like to to go, I'd like to know how godd/bad a rep the different MF balers have so I can decide what to do($$$). I've seen a lot of 124's listed(think that's the model) and they bring better than scrap here. But???? Big thing is it's pto instead of that noisy Wisconsin disturbance riding behind me. Loren.

I had a 124 that I used for about 3 or 4 years. It worked OK, but when parts go bad they are expensive. The knotters are a little different than the design commonly used on the JD and NH balers so you have to become well acquainted with it since not a lot of people here are familiar with it.

I sold mine because I needed a smaller baler to maneuver in my small field. I'm just a hobbiest, not a serious farmer. The guy I sold it to has not paid me and now I'm beginning to doubt he ever will. I heard he lost the chain to the needle drive and instead of fixing it properly, he just slapped the chain back on and tried to go baling without first retiming the baler. So now the needles are bent. I'm sure he's somehow finding a way to blame me for that. We agreed on a price of $600. I've seen them sell at auction for anywhere from $275 to $800.
