A few days ago I posted about the bearing going bad on the top roller on my NH 479 haybine. I got the bearing changed out. After I put everything back together and ran it for a few minutes I found out the shaft for the bottom roller got quite hot. I have the bearing holder apart and the bearing doesn't physically look bad like the top one did. Its also not siezed up since its not spinning on the shaft. Could that bearing still be bad making the shaft get hot? Since it hasn't fallen apart I'm not sure how I would get it out. I am hearing a squealing noise somewhere but I'm not sure its that particular bearing. Its an old machine and never has run very quiet.

Charlie, as a suggestion can you check the setting for you roll pressure with the manuals recommendation. I have never had these bearings go bad. Of course this doesn't mean they won't but you would think that if 2 othem go bad at the same time there may be another reason. Good luck.

Most of the time when a bearing gets hot it means its bad or is going bad. In my book it says to me replace me. I'm also one that when I notice something that just doesn't seem right I would rather replace and know its ok then to run it and hope it is
