Dirt sticks to loader bucket

I just installed a trip bucket loader on my Ford Tractor. I'm new to using a loader but the first thing I noticed was the dirt tends to stick to the inside of the loader bucket. The bucket has a layer of rust on the inside.

What are the best methods to make the bucket release the dirt? Wax? Oil? Clean and paint the inside?

TIA,

Paul.

Hi , Like everyone else say's - dirt sticks ! Rust doesn't help the situation but metal rusts . Any moisture in the dirt - it'll stick . Lot's of movement of dirt over the surface is the best thing you can do for it . Old hit the nail on the head - sand , lot's of it . But barring that just use it as you normally would and carry a shovel or ice chipper with you and scrape it off when when you feel it's getting to thick or heavy . That's what I do on the 3-1/2 yard bucket on the michigan power-shovel at work . And DON'T let water sit in it if you leave it outside ! Good luck ...Randy

There is no way around dirt sticking. Some types of manure are even worse. The trick is not how to keep it from sticking, but how to get it out. You obviously have an old loader since it is a trip bucket. So I assume the pins are atleast part worn in the pivot points. Exploit this. Jerk and bounce the loader up and down as you lower it to the ground. Thats how the pins got warn in the first place.

One of the best ways to fix that problem is use it a lot on sand or gravel then go to the dirt work.

Clean it up a little by scraping it. I would not bother trying to shine or polish it. If you have some gravel fill and dump it a few times to help knock some of the rust and dirt off. Remember wet dirt is always going to stick somewhat. Just use the bucket like it is you can scrape it out once in awhile if you want to. In my mind the best thing and the least amount of work is to clean it out after each use before putting it up. Give it a light coat of used oil or grease if you want. Leave it in the shed or at least cover it up when not using it. I would not recomend any oil or grease before using it as this tends to cause dirt to stick until it is worn off. If you want to paint and wax it it would not hurt but remember it will wear off with use. The most important part it remember to cover it and keep dry when not in use.

He means "put it to work". Using dirt engaging implements is a good way to keep them clean.

Hah! I thought 'Use' was some sort of brand name!

Obviously the masses have spoken. I'll give it a thorough workout and not get overly worked up if the dirt sticks a bit.

Thanks,

Paul.
