I have a JD 953(?) running gear - the kind with the 2" round tube connecting the front to the rear. There is no tag that I can find. I want to get decals but I want to make sure which ones belong and where they go. When I got it there was "John Deere" across the rear axel and the JD logo on the left side, front, axel splay. Any help would be appreciated.

It could also be a 963.Is the bottom of the tongue reinforced? The 63s had a plate welded to the bottom side of the channel iron(boxed in).The 53s didn't.Thats the easiest way to tell which model you have.

The tongue is not reinforced - so must be a # 953. Any guidance on the decals? Thanks.

Decals are different depending on when it was made. I have one that was bought new by a relative in 1959 that has JOHN DEERE in the letter style of the 30-series 2-cylinder tractors on front and back box channels, with the 4-leg leaping deere logo off to the side of the lettering (although I can"t remember for sure which side, I"ll have to look.) I have another 953 that my grandfather got new in 1948 that is different. Now it"s all rusty, but there is still the trace outline of JOHN DEERE on the beams in the old-style block lettering, and a trace of the 1940"s logo with the deer leaping over the words "Quality Farm Equipment". I know there"s a manufacturer out there that makes decals for these running gears, but I"m not sure which one, might be an ad in Antique Power, have to look.
