Reading this forum I see a lot of new people running round balers. Just wanted them to be aware that round balers are famous for starting fires. They are made up of several bearings that tend to go bad over time. Belonging to a Montana Rural Fire Dept. I have had the honor of fighting a couple of them. Never bale with out a couple gal. water presurized extingisher,and a powder all class one. I carry a lazer infrared temp. guage to shoot the bearings every couple of hrs. They work great for that. Make sure you dont need wrenches to unhook your tractor.If you see the dust from it change from gray to black stop and check it. If it is burning dump the bale while you are calling 911 for the Rural boys. The look on a ranchers face as he looks at his sound guard cab. with air conditioning melted is priceless. Especially with a 100 acres down and 300 to go. At least at the supper table when he tells his wife she cant have her new Lexis cause needs new haying equipment, he did all he could to put the fire out.
